Stöðvarfjörður
A Creative Fishing Village with Roots Reaching the Settlement Era
You are always welcome
Enjoy your stay while you explore local stones and art, and sip on coffee roasted right on-site.

The village
Stöðvarfjörður is a cozy seaside village where culture truly flourishes.
Fishing industry
While the town’s fishing industry has seen busier days in the past, a significant amount of fish is still brought to shore here, even if it is processed elsewhere.

The Settlement Era
In Stöðvarfjörður, archaeologists are currently excavating ancient ruins that may date back to around 800 AD. Among the finds is an ancient stone carving of a Viking ship—likely the oldest image ever created in Iceland.
Stöðvarfjörður has long been a center for artistic creation. It is home to one of the oldest art galleries in the Icelandic countryside, The Creative Centre (Sköpunarmiðstöðin), which provides facilities for almost all types of artistic work and is a vibrant community of resident visual artists and musicians.
